Despite the recent formation of the ensemble — founded in 2022 following the meeting of the three young musicians in Basel — the Helix Trio has quickly established itself as one of the most promising emerging groups, earning numerous awards and giving multiple performances across Spain and Central Europe.
Their performance opened with Joaquín Turina’s Trio No. 2 in B minor, Op. 76, composed in 1933 and premiered by the Dutch Trio at the University of Groningen on November 17 of the same year. From the very beginning, they demonstrated their deep rapport, their interpretative intensity — leaving no room for restraint — and the quality of their individual sounds.

In November 2024, the Helix Trio was named Rising Ensemble 2025 by FestClásica, ensuring their participation in some of Spain’s most prestigious festivals throughout 2025. Earlier, in September September 2024, the trio was awarded the prestigious Filippo Nicosia Award in Italy, a recognition that includes the opportunity to perform several concerts in the country. This achievement adds to other important awards such as the ORPHEUS Swiss Chamber Music Competition 2022 in Switzerland and the «La Flama» Competition 2023 in Vic, consolidating the trio as one of the most promising ensembles of its generation.
Formed in 2022 at the Hochschule für Musik FHNW Basel, the Helix Trio consists of Jaume Angelès Fité (violin), Iago Dominguez Eiras (cello), and Paula Belzunegui Moreno (piano). They are currently under the tutelage of renowned professors such as Anton Kernjak, Claudio Martínez-Mehner, Zoltán Fejérvári, Silvia Simionescu, and Anna Gebert as part of the Ergänzungsstudium program. Additionally, their artistic development continues under the guidance of Rafael Rosenfeld and Rainer Schmidt.
Since July 2023, the Helix Trio has been a member of the ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) and is part of the Le Dimore del Quartetto network, which allows them to engage with an international high-level environment. During the 2024-2025 season, the trio will perform at the Auditori de Barcelona, among other concert halls.
The trio has been invited to major festivals such as the Piano Trio Fest (Bern), the Swiss Chamber Music Festival (Adelboden), and the Musikdorf Ernen Festival, and made their debut at the prestigious Palau de la Música Catalana in 2023.
Throughout their career, the Helix Trio has worked with distinguished chamber music figures, participating in masterclasses with musicians such as Steven Isserlis, Heime Müller (Artemis Quartet), Anthony Marwood, Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Johannes Meissl, Patrick Jüdt, Vera Martínez Mehner, Robert Levin, Eckart Runge, Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartet), Antonio Valentino, Simone Gramaglia, Miriam Fried, and Heinz Holliger. In addition, in 2023, they attended the IMS Prussia Cove Masterclasses with pianist Dénes Várjon and the International Chamber Music Academy of Vic with violinist Abel Tomàs (Casals Quartet).
